East of Eden
John Steinbeck explores these ideas in East of Eden (1952), which is part fiction and part personal history. It tells the story of two American families living in California between 1862 and 1918. At that time, large numbers of immigrants were arriving in the United States from Europe. Many of them were poor, ad they were hoping for better opportunities in the new contry. This novel consists of 15 chapters. The writer considered East of Eden to be one of his most important works. Then, the novel became a best-seller.
