Percy Jakson and The Olympians : The Sea of Monsters #2

Percy Jackson & The Sea of Monsters is the second book in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series - written by Rick Riordan and published in May 2006. The highly anticipated follow-up to The Lightning Thief sees Percy Jackson once again joining his friends to fight not just for the safety of Camp Half-Blood, but for the safety of the world. This time Percy teams up with Annabeth, Clarissa, and Tyson on a journey across the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the legendary Gold and save his best friend Grover from the clutches of the evil Cyclops. Meanwhile Luke continues his defiance of the gods and Olympus by hijacking a ship and recruiting evil creatures to join his crusade.

The story begins in New York with Percy moving back in with his mother, preparing to finish school and return to Camp Half-Blood. After taking a crazy taxi ride from New York and arriving to find Camp unstable, the foursome set out for the sea, encountering a water world fit for the son of Poseidon. From here the rest of the story is spent exploring Sea of Monsters where Riordan seamlessly weaves Greek mythology into our world, building out the established environments in fantastical but wholly believable ways. Moving the story from Campgrounds and New York was the perfect choice for the second book, allowing us to delve further into the world Riordan had cleverly woven together.
